Hello, everyone, and welcome to the courageous destiny build a business and life you love podcast.
Speaker A:I'm your hostess, Kristen Crockett, and I am so thrilled to have Carissa Beeman, managing director of the polka dot powerhouse McHenry and Lake County, Illinois chapter.
Speaker A:I have to tell you guys, I met Carissa a few.
Speaker A:Oh, gosh, probably a few months back, and I found out about this amazing organization called the Polka Dots, and I just had to have her on my podcast and I had to join.
Speaker A:Welcome, Karissa, to my show.
Speaker B:Hi.
Speaker B:Thanks for having me.
Speaker B:I'm so glad to be here.
Speaker A:Oh, what an honor to have you.
Speaker A:I would love for you to share about the Polka Dots with my listeners today.
Speaker B:Absolutely.
Speaker B:Absolutely.
Speaker A:You.
Speaker A:Why you.
Speaker A:You know, you're a busy professional.
Speaker A:You're like me.
Speaker A:I know that you're a successful realtor that you know there's so many things that you do, and yet you found it in your heart and created time to create a chapter of the McHenry Lake County, Illinois polka dots.
Speaker A:So what was it about polka dots?
Speaker A:Tell me about it.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:Yes.
Speaker B:So I, like you said, a real estate agent.
Speaker B:And I was like, where do I authentically meet people?
Speaker B:Because I'm not a typical realtor.
Speaker B:I'm not somebody that's, you know, going to hard sell a house at any point in time.
Speaker B:I am more like, let the house find them and make sure it's their.
Speaker B:Their forever hive to thrive, as you might say, with Beeman Partners.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:So, you know, the hard sell on real estate is not where it's at.
Speaker B:I was looking to build authentic connections with people in my area, and there was never really a space that I could find to do that.
Speaker B:It was all very hard networking.
Speaker B:BNIs, you know, not to, you know, shame on anything or anyone, but it was not my jam.
Speaker B:It was like I was looking for casual connection with people that would know who I am at the core, who I am as a person.
Speaker B:And then if they needed real estate services, they would know that I would work hard for them and their family and make sure that they were hitting all of the checkpoints that they needed on their.
Speaker B:Their needs list for their new home and stuff like that.
Speaker B:So where do I find my people?
Speaker B:I'm gonna start this.
Speaker B:I'm gonna start this group.
Speaker B:Well, guess what?
Speaker B:It already existed.
Speaker B:I found it.
Speaker B:It was called Polka Dot Powerhouse.
Speaker B:My friend from high school, her name's Carly.
Speaker B:Her and I met, like, first day freshman year in high school.
Speaker B:I know she was like, girl, you are a polka dot.
Speaker B:And I was like, what are you talking about?
Speaker B:I'm a polka dot.
Speaker B:What is that?
Speaker B:She's like, polka dots.
Speaker B:She's like, it's a positive women's group.
Speaker B:And I'm like, yeah, right.
Speaker B:That sounds like a lot of drama to me.
Speaker B:A women's group.
Speaker B:And she's like, no, really, it's one of our top 10 things of why you should be a polka dot.
Speaker B:Is drama free?
Speaker B:And yes, although drama does happen, it doesn't happen in the group.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:It all happens, you know, outside the group, if at all.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:So we make sure that our space that we hold for our polka dots is a drama free space.
Speaker B:You know, you're always going to feel like you belong when you walk into a polka dot room.
Speaker B:And so that is what I found about, about polka dots that made me be like, okay, I'm in a place that I belong.
Speaker B:I'm, I'm, you know, kind of sick of being included.
Speaker B:I want to belong.
Speaker B:Right, right.
Speaker B:So I was a part of the worldwide chapter, which was all virtual because it is a worldwide group.
Speaker B:Carly's in Colorado, I'm in Illinois.
Speaker B:And I was like, I need to bring this in person here in Illinois.
Speaker A:So, so how many polka dots are there globally?
Speaker B:Globally, we are about 3,000 globally.
Speaker B:We have a Canada chapter, we have a UK chapter, Australia.
Speaker B:We've got, we've got women all over the place looking for other positive connection with other women.
Speaker B:And I brought it here to Illinois.
Speaker B:So even though now we do meet in person and we are a group of almost 30 women strong locally, 3,000 of us are worldwide and we have those virtual options which are all great options to basically build yourself professionally and personally.
Speaker B:So you don't have to have a business to be a polka dot.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:You can just be somebody that is looking for friendship, a place to connect with other women, maybe a place to mastermind and toss ideas with other people and, and see if you can get some feedback.
Speaker B:It really is just a women's group social club of sorts to personal professional development.
Speaker B:So my, and I also, I have.
Speaker A:To say this, I have to say this.
Speaker A:One of my biggest observations in the group and it really happened right away, is kind.
Speaker B:Oh, yes, yes.
Speaker B:Positivity and support of one another.
Speaker B:It's a abundance mindset.
Speaker B:So we don't compete with each other, we collaborate with each other.
Speaker B:So even though I said, you know, real estate agent, we can still have other real estate agents in our group, you know, I welcome them to come into the group.
Speaker B:It's not like, oh, there's Already a real estate agent.
Speaker B:They, she takes all the business.
Speaker B:That's not what the group is about.
Speaker B:The group is about sisterhood.
Speaker B:It's about community.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker B:And my goal was just to have a space for women to be seen, heard and celebrated.
Speaker B:And as long as I'm doing that, I'm hitting all my goals.
Speaker B:So, you know, having, you know, in our meetings, we have those moments where people introduce themselves with a little one minute introduction where they can shine in their business or their, their personal things that they like, the things that they, they thrive in, whether it be parenting or sleeping.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:It doesn't matter what it is.
Speaker B:We want to be able to know who you are and then we want to celebrate you.
Speaker B:So we, and we have celebrations at our meetings too.
Speaker B:And that is one of my favorite parts is just to hear some of the celebrations that our sisters have.
Speaker B:Whether it's we got out of bed today and made it to a meeting or we sold a $900,000 house, or we launched a retreat business and we're moving into our next phase of life.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:So, you know, no matter how big or small, we want to celebrate you.
Speaker B:We want you to be seen, want you to be heard, you know, so that's.
Speaker B:Those are the goals here in Polka Dot.
Speaker A:Well, I, I love what you said too, that there is no competing, you know, because one of the things that I find and, and I even share this because obviously anywhere where I go where there's a women's network group, it is likely there is going to be another coach, you know, or there's going to be somebody who is in a self development or there's going to be somebody.
Speaker A:And I say, hey, let's bring it on, because somebody's id, I always say you attract who you are.
Speaker A:So if you truly are being your authentic self, if you're truly in a place where you feel comfortable enough to really let out who you are and your authenticity, you're going to naturally attract the people that are meant to be with you.
Speaker B:Absolutely.
Speaker A:It's when people be the, a different version of themselves, they end up attracting people they don't want to work with.
Speaker A:That's when they end up competing and they're really focused on making sure that, you know, they have to be the boss or whatever.
Speaker A:Right?
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Connection first.
Speaker B:Yeah, connection first.
Speaker B:It's all about growing that relationship, that friendship, knowing who each other are at the core.
Speaker B:And then business comes naturally after that.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:You know, if you're going to want to work with somebody or not work with somebody and you know, something that's a little crazy to other people that they, they.
Speaker B:They think is that we don't pass out business cards at Polka Dot meetings.
Speaker B:Like, you know, it's.
Speaker B:It's not a business card passing out place.
Speaker B:So if that's your jam, this might not be for you.
Speaker B:We do have a networking table.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Where you can put your stuff out.
Speaker B:And if somebody's interested in grabbing your information, they can absolutely do so as they pass by the networking table, you know, and do all that stuff.
Speaker B:But it's really.
Speaker B:It is connection focused.
Speaker B:We're there to support each other, empower each other, you know, help each other, educate each other.
Speaker B:We have speakers at every meeting, and I believe that you are a speaker coming up soon.
Speaker B:So I am.
Speaker A:I'm doing my exciting to my secrets to build a business in life you love.
Speaker B:I love it.
Speaker B:So we do have powerful women like Kristen sharing their knowledge and being able to help us all grow as individuals and possible business owners, right?
Speaker A:Absolutely.
Speaker A:One of the things that I noticed just right away was there was a sweetness.
Speaker A:There was a.
Speaker A:We weren't.
Speaker A:You know, sometimes when you go into another networking event, there's a certain amount of strategy, I guess you would say, that's involved with it.
Speaker A:And so you're kind of scoping out the room and you're like, okay, who are my people in this room?
Speaker A:Oh, my gosh, they're all my people.
Speaker A:How fun.
Speaker A:There's no strategy needed.
Speaker A:You can just go and be you and have a conversation and get to know friends.
Speaker A:Get to know friends, yes.
Speaker B:It's hard to make friends as an adult.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:I was like, real ones.
Speaker A:Real ones.
Speaker A:It can be, for sure.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:So I put out my beacon and y' all found me.
Speaker B:And I'm loving every moment of it.
Speaker B:I mean, we've got so many things happening within the Polka Dot group.
Speaker B:So much collaboration.
Speaker B:I just went to an event this last weekend, and there was a lady that had attended our launch, and one of our leadership members was photographing this lady's event.
Speaker B:And another one of our leadership members was manning one of the tables and doing sound healing at the event.
Speaker B:And then another one of our Polka Dot members came and attended the event as a supporter.
Speaker B:And I was looking all around, I was like, look at all these polka dots collaborating and coming together in the community.
Speaker B:It was just one of those magical moments that I can't wait to experience again because I know it's happening on a daily basis now where these polka dots are getting together together and connecting.
Speaker B:We Call it connecting the dots.
Speaker B:Because if you don't know how to do it, guess what?
Speaker B:There's a dot for that.
Speaker B:There's somebody out there in the dot world that knows what you got it.
Speaker B:You know, some advice for you, something that you could be doing because we don't should on each other, but maybe you could try this.
Speaker A:Very nice.
Speaker A:Very nice.
Speaker A:Well, and I did notice that right away, and it's one of the reasons why I wanted to, you know, have you on my podcast today.
Speaker A:Today is, you know, if you're out there with your business right now and you're, you know, I coach a lot of people on how to sell from their heart.
Speaker A:So if somebody's a hustler, if somebody wants to make a million bucks and doesn't really give a crap about their product, I'm not the coach for them.
Speaker A:Like, that's, you know, don't come to me.
Speaker A:But if you're somebody who really cares about what you do and you really care about it, and it's, it's something you want to make sure gets out in the world and you want to have impact, but you don't really know how to sell and it feels vulnerable.
Speaker A:You know, I'm a great coach for that.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:I'm a great coach for people who really want to take it to the next level and thrive as well.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:But what I do, that's.
Speaker B:Yeah, that is what your superpower is, I've noticed, is that you help people find not necessarily their authenticity, but realize their authentic selves so that they can use that power moving forward in their businesses.
Speaker B:And.
Speaker A:Yeah, how to use your guidance and how to find a way to authentically connect.
Speaker A:Because there are so many people out there that don't want to be a salesperson, but they've got this amazing product or service that can really help humanity, really, really help someone in some way, shape or form.
Speaker A:But they become the best kept secret because they're not willing to share, you know, and they're not willing to share because out there in the world, we learn about, you gotta sound good, you gotta.
Speaker A:You gotta create a certain Persona in order to be able to sell, which feels fake and phony to people, which is why, you know, sometimes salespeople get a bad rap because they do become somebody with an agenda, somebody who doesn't have, you know, tries to become somebody else in order to sound good, etc.
Speaker A:Etc.
Speaker A:And they take that into networking events.
Speaker A:And then sometimes networking events get a bad rep because there's a bunch of people trying to Be somebody else or to be the best.
Speaker B:And how many people follow up with you after one of those things?
Speaker B:You get, you know, 20.
Speaker B:Nobody follows up with you.
Speaker B:You know, it wasn't.
Speaker B:It wasn't authentic.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:I guess one of the best compliments that I have received is I love how authentic you are.
Speaker B:And I was like, oh, that's a good compliment.
Speaker A:You know, and we can have an authentic conversation too, because I tell you people, I can't tell you how many people think they're authentic.
Speaker A:Right.
Speaker A:But it's so much more than that.
Speaker A:We have so many distractions that are in our daily lives that pull us from what our true nature and our true essence is as a human being.
Speaker A:It's hard to be authentic in this world.
Speaker A:So what's so nice is here's this group that just allows you to be you right from the get go.
Speaker A:And that's.
Speaker B:That's really special just the way you are, right?
Speaker B:Oh, I love it.
Speaker B:I love it.
Speaker B:In a positive place, you know, there's not a lot of opportunity to be seen and heard places.
Speaker B:Right?
Speaker B:You can be seen, but are you being heard?
Speaker B:And this is a place where people have asked me questions that literally almost dropped me on my feet, like, off my feet, swept me off my feet, like, how can I support you?
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker B:I was like, what?
Speaker B:I am the supporter.
Speaker B:I support everybody.
Speaker B:I'm the one that supports.
Speaker B:You know, I was asked, how can I support you?
Speaker B:And I was like, it really took me back because I did not know how to answer at first and now I know how to answer.
Speaker B:I'm like, well, you can jump on my social media and like, all of my posts that you see and you can, you know, this, and then come to my next event.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:I have a list of things that I can ask of people now.
Speaker B:Whereas at first I was like, holy cow, there's people out there that want to support me too.
Speaker B:That was strange.
Speaker B:It was strange.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:Yeah.
Speaker A:I mean, I have to say I have been blessed over the years to come in contact with some amazing groups, you know, and some different women's groups.
Speaker A:And I just love the dots.
Speaker A:It's fun.
Speaker A:It's fun.
Speaker A:And it's.
Speaker A:It's.
Speaker A:Doesn't feel like I have to put on any airs.
Speaker A:I feel like I can even show up, you know, in the raw, you know, so if I went for a walk beforehand and I showed up at a dot meeting, I'd be okay.
Speaker B:Yeah.
Speaker B:People come right after a workout.
Speaker B:Workout clothes, not showered.
Speaker B:Come as you are.
Speaker A:Like, I'm going to be okay.
Speaker A:I'm going to be okay.
Speaker A:And, and I find that very important when you're looking for your tribe and you're looking for your people to be able to have people that help you support your life and your self care and, and your business, like all of it.
Speaker A:And so I think that meet you.
Speaker B:Where you're at, you know, because we, we all don't know what we know until we know.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:And so sometimes, you know, just having somebody being able to meet you where you're at right now and see you and help you in, in the, in a sense that there nobody's looking to get anything out of it.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:I'm just here to help you in this space right now because I want to no other agenda other than I want to be here for you.
Speaker B:You know, it's.
Speaker B:That's a pretty cool, Pretty cool thing we found.
Speaker A:Yeah, it's unconditional.
Speaker A:It's unconditional.
Speaker A:You don't.
Speaker A:You know, I remember one of the first dots I met for lunch or for breakfast.
Speaker A:She was just exploring her life, you know, it wasn't that she was promoting a business, she was just exploring her life and I loved that, you know, and then I met out with another dot and that dot wanted to take her knife life to the next level, you know, and we had a conversation about it, but it wasn't like I was selling her coaching.
Speaker A:It wasn't anything like that.
Speaker A:It was just such a nice, easy, breezy conversation and knowing that we'll meet again, it's not, it's not a one and done, you know.
Speaker A:So how many times do you go out in the networking world and you have this list of action items and if you're not driving it, it's not going anywhere and it feels like you're trying to move, you know, a lead ball forward, right.
Speaker A:And it doesn't just, it's not natural, it's not an intuitive connection.
Speaker A:But I have found at the polka dots that it is natural and it is intuitive and it's special.
Speaker B:And one of the things that I'm looking forward to the most is celebration in October.
Speaker B:Every October they have a celebration and it is an annual event where worldwide all dots get together and one central location and we basically celebrate together.
Speaker B:It's called celebration for a reason.
Speaker B:And there are certain chapters that are celebrated and people that are celebrated.
Speaker B:We have motivational speakers, we have like a gala where you can either dress fancy or in your pajamas because it's come as you are, right?
Speaker B:And pink and orange night and just so much fun.
Speaker B:And so when you're connecting worldwide with dots, if you go on the website, right, you search on the back end for coach, and you can find all of the coaches that are in Polka Dot.
Speaker B:And then when you go to Celebration, you've already connected with all the coaches in Polka Dot.
Speaker B:And then you have, like, your own little coach breakfast and hang out.
Speaker B:And now you got your little Coach Stop friends.
Speaker B:It's so fun.
Speaker B:I love it.
Speaker A:It is fun.
Speaker A:No, that sounds amazing.
Speaker A:And.
Speaker A:And I want to.
Speaker A:I want to showcase that part of it, too.
Speaker A:So you've got your local chapters.
Speaker A:So first of all, if there isn't a local chapter about you by you, and you're like, wow, this sounds really kind of cool.
Speaker A:You know, you can follow in Carissa's footsteps and contact the group and look into what it would take to open up your own chapter, but there's also this incredible opportunity to become part of a national organization.
Speaker A:So for me, I don't just have a local reach.
Speaker A:You know, I can coach somebody over in the uk.
Speaker A:I can coach somebody in China.
Speaker A:Like, there's no limits to where I can reach out to, you know, to.
Speaker A:To coach or to spread the word about courageous destiny.
Speaker A:So it's very nice to be able to have an organization where it even goes beyond the local.
Speaker A:And the local is wonderful.
Speaker A:Oh, my gosh.
Speaker A:I had a.
Speaker A:I gotta share this.
Speaker A:So I had a great conversation, and the first thing she says when we sit down, she looks at me and she goes, so what's the deal with all these coaches?
Speaker A:Every time I turn around, there's another coach.
Speaker A:What is coaching that's so great?
Speaker A:And I'm like, well, we're not all the same.
Speaker A:I'm sure people specialize in different things.
Speaker A:You know, some people, you've got weight loss.
Speaker A:And I was able to just kind of go in and explain, you know, what coaching was and why somebody would hire a coach and that it's not a need, you know, it's.
Speaker A:It's something.
Speaker A:Somebody wants to take their life to the next level in something and wants to do it fast or wants to do it fast.
Speaker A:They can do it on their own.
Speaker A:So they're willing to.
Speaker A:To, you know, to invest a little bit and kind of put their.
Speaker A:Their head to the grindstone and.
Speaker B:And you don't vibe with everybody, right?
Speaker A:No, exactly.
Speaker B:There are coaches out there.
Speaker B:I will never work with them.
Speaker B:And there are coaches out there where I will pay a million dollars to work with them.
Speaker A:Right, exactly, exactly.
Speaker A:But it was so Great.
Speaker A:We had so much fun.
Speaker A:I digress a little bit.
Speaker A:But it was such a fun conversation and that's that authenticity thing.
Speaker A:Like you can ask anything, you can say anything.
Speaker A:It's not going to, you know, we're not going to end up in a political debate, you know, on, on a, on a dot floor.
Speaker A:Yeah, it's just a really great organization.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker A:But yeah, so you have this national outreach part of it that I think is so cool too, and, and that's unique that that definitely doesn't happen all over the place, so.
Speaker B:Well, to know that you have 3,000 women in your corner cheering for you is kind of a powerful thing to think about.
Speaker A:Yes, yes.
Speaker B:You know, I mean, I, I will pop in on a zoom meeting and people will recognize me and, and stuff.
Speaker B:And it's just because, you know, like, we have like a magazine that goes out and my picture was in the magazine because I launched a chapter and then people saw it and, you know, it's just, they take those little moments to, to celebrate their members in a way that is memorable.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Like they.
Speaker B:We get little pins that say, I rock the dot when you join and then, you know, you get your one year pin and you know, all these things that just show how much you are appreciated and loved and belong here and, you know, to help elevate you to your highest, you know, self, the best you you can be, and also support you when you're not the best you you can be.
Speaker B:Right.
Speaker B:Sometimes you sit in the suck together.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:Yes.
Speaker A:So let me ask you this.
Speaker A:So I, I always ask these two questions on anybody who comes onto my podcast.
Speaker A:So what is the most courageous thing you've ever done?
Speaker B:Oh.
Speaker A:You are on the Courageous Destiny podcast.
Speaker A:So I have to ask that question.
Speaker B:Ah, yes, I know, and I should have probably thought about it beforehand, but I guess you could say one of the most courageous things that I have done was take on being a foster parent when I was not already a foster parent.
Speaker B:There was a child, when my child was in second grade that just kind of started hanging around my family a lot and then was really around my family a lot.
Speaker B:And then when, you know, one day the police got involved, showed up at the house, were like, hey, we gotta take custody of the child.
Speaker B:And I was like, can I keep them?
Speaker B:I became a foster parent.
Speaker B:That was a very courageous move because I kind of did not know what I was getting into, but at the same time really knew what I was getting into.
Speaker B:And I'd say that probably was my most courageous move.
Speaker B:And I gave her that life.
Speaker B:I saved that life.
Speaker A:Oh my gosh.
Speaker A:How special.
Speaker A:We'll have to have another podcast where you share about that because that's really, really special.
Speaker B:I'd love to share anytime.
Speaker A:And now I have another.
Speaker A:What is the most courageous thing so far that you have left to do on your bucket list?
Speaker B:Okay, so I have recently started moonbeaming retreats.
Speaker B:So you can check out moonbeaming.com and I have started a psychedelic facilitator course.
Speaker B:So this is a healing journey for others that I will be able to facilitate at some retreats.
Speaker B:And whether it's one on one virtual sessions or if it's small group sessions, you know, doing pre, pre work, current work and then post work, that is a destiny, a courageous destiny that I've been fulfilling for a while that I'm finally stepping into.
Speaker B:So it is a very exciting thing that I will soon be licensed with that, certified.
Speaker A:Oh, I love to hear that.
Speaker A:I love to hear that.
Speaker A:Oh my goodness.
Speaker A:So you'll need to keep me up to date.
Speaker A:So if you don't have like the, the way that people get in contact you for that yet, you know, you can certainly have me update the notes later on.
Speaker B:And moonbeaming.com is, is the, is the retreat part of it so they can always.
Speaker B:Anybody can always get in, in touch with me through the website there.
Speaker A:Excellent.
Speaker A:Excellent.
Speaker A:And we will definitely have that in show notes for anybody who is interested.
Speaker A:I think Carissa is the epitome of authenticity and also very, very fun.
Speaker A:You're very fun is an attitude, girl.
Speaker B:Fun is an attitude.
Speaker B:I agree.
Speaker A:Like, I, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that.
Speaker A:I can't do things that they're boring.
Speaker A:You know, that's why I couldn't have, you know, Kristen Crockett LLC coaching company.
Speaker A:You know, that would never have worked.
Speaker A:It had to be courageous.
Speaker A:Destiny had to be fun.
Speaker A:It had to be exciting and, and something that I would always remember that it would be fun.
Speaker A:So.
Speaker B:Absolutely.
